Orange Flowers: Summer Floral Arrangements Ideas for Home
The Sonoma County sunset inspires this Orange Crush dinner table centerpiece
Each summer, we host Sunset Supper at Vista Point–the highest hilltop on Jordan Estate, and this dinner party’s summer floral arrangements made with orange flowers offer several ideas for flower arranging at home. Guests enjoy a seated dinner surrounded by vista views of three wine valleys as the summer sun descends on the horizon behind the mountains, so I often use the fiery sun as inspiration for my event decor color palette, making shades of orange flowers a focal point in my cocktail party flower arrangements and dining table centerpieces. For this inaugural al-fresco meal, which has a garden-driven menu, I created two types of “Orange Crush” florals: small centerpieces in mint julep cups for the high-top cocktail tables and larger rectangular centerpieces for the dinner tables.
I purchased distressed wood flower boxes used orange roses, ornamental poppy (many similar styles can be found on this Etsy search). Crate & Barrel has fabulous julep cups that can be repurposed as flower vases when you’re drinking wine instead of whiskey. My floral combination lists for both arrangements are included below. When it comes to design, use odd numbers in your arrangement for a more balanced, appealing look. Build with the biggest elements first, which will be the focal point before moving into the smaller flowers like roses and lilies. Add poppy pods and berries before the final filler.
